Getting Involved

Community Nights
Because the Florida Collegiate Summer League could not have made it this far without the help of so many people, the league is partnering up with others (local businesses, church groups and youth sport programs) in June and July to host Community Nights at ballparks in Sanford, DeLand and Winter Park.
Teams in those areas will be offering fundraising groups the opportunity to share gate receipts and in-game raffle revenue while enabling them the chance to spread the message about their mission and/or cause at display booths inside the stadiums.
During these special nights the Florida League and its baseball fans will be playing a big role in helping each group reach their goals in the process. Hosting a Community Night also provides a way for leaders of those groups to give recognition to its members before and after games through avenues such as the singing of the National Anthem, throwing out the first pitch, announcing “Play Ball” to the home crowd and having kids run bases afterwards.

Volunteers
The Florida League relies on volunteers for many things over the course of a season. They come in the form of public address announcers, scoreboard operators, ticket ushers and concession stand attendants during each fun and festive game. Volunteers are always welcomed and appreciated at all our games.
To find out more about how you can get involved with the Florida League as a volunteer call the league office at 321-206-9174 or email Rob Sitz at rsitz@floridaleague.com.
Host Families
The Florida Collegiate Summer League is always looking for generous families willing to open their homes to our players. The host family program is a vital part of every collegiate summer league team across the country, and we at the Florida League believe the quality of people who live in the Central Florida area will set our host family program apart from other college summer leagues.
Host families take a player into their homes over the course of nine weeks during the season. Players arrive during the last week of May and generally stay through the second week of August, at the latest. As a host family, it would be your responsibility to provide your player with a stable, clean and healthy environment with access to a washer, dryer and refrigerator. Additionally, because many of the players will be stretched financially during the summer, host families with the ability, means, and thoughtfulness to provide a few meals each week to their players would be particularly desirable. We ask that you provide breakfast and/or lunch items daily as the Florida League provides all players with a pre-game meal before all home and away games.
The ideal numbers of players per host family is two, although one is great as well. All of our players provide their own transportation. We are looking for host families willing to commit to the entire season .Be aware that players will often return very late from games (12 midnight).Keep in mind these will be college students between the ages of 18-21.
These players are rising stars who all have ambitions to play Major League Baseball. You, as a host family, will play a big part in their success in Central Florida and in their careers as baseball players. The better the 'home' environment the better the player's experience and performance. Players are recruited through their college baseball coaches, and all of them have agreed to maintain impeccable moral standards, abide by NCAA guidelines, and be a role model for our fans. If any player’s actions, on or off the field, are not congruent with FCSL standards, we will ask them to pack their bags and return home. We believe that living in a family’s home is a privilege the players should respect and appreciate.
In all, host families assume a large responsibility, but there are benefits for taking on that responsibility. Although host families are only minimally compensated financially ($50 each week, collected by teams), they all become a member of the Florida League family and receive two season passes two our games. The chance to help a college student-athlete pursue his dream can be extremely rewarding. You will be a crucial part of the success of our league by providing over 175 players the venue to play wood-bat baseball while also giving 20 coaches and 20 college/graduate interns an opportunity to hone their professional skills. We offer affordable family fun entertainment throughout the summer to Central Florida communities. In short, we want local communities to look forward to summers in Florida, because it means college baseball is coming to town!
Again, we want to stress our commitment to our host family program. We did not start this league to be second best. Therefore, we will make our players and our host families as compatible as possible to avoid potential problems, and that requires an application process. Before applying to our program please carefully consider the information provided here. Then, if you are willing to proceed, please contact us. We truly appreciate your generosity and commitment to these young student-athletes.
