The 9th annual Florida League Celebrity Golf Tournament took place over the weekend, with more than 30 professional baseball players traveling to Central Florida to support the League. After months of preparation and planning, the result was fantastic, as a record number for money raised was reached.

Things kicked off with the Pairings Party, held at Interlachen Country Club on Sunday evening. More than 200 people were in attendance, including the golfers, a handful of celebrities and select sponsors and supporters of the Florida League. After enjoying a few hours of delicious food and drinks, a handul of guest speakers stepped up to the podium to deliver a powerful message of the benefits of having a summer baseball program in Central Florida. Speakers included League President Rob Sitz, Tournament Chair Kevin Davidson, legendary Rollins College Head Coach Bob Rikeman, and presenting sponsors Mike Zizmer and Newton Jones from UBS Private Wealth and Mike Flaskey of Diamond Resorts International.

In their first year as a presenting sponsor of the tournament, Mr. Flaskey and Diamond Resorts played a massive role in helping the Florida League achieve a new fundraising goal. During a live auction, bidders had the opportunity to win a week long vacation to any Diamond Resort in North America as well as a playing spot in the Diamond Resorts Invitational. With three separate winnning bidders, this package alone raised nearly $30,000. Other live auction items included a collection of fine wine, an all expenses paid trip to Wrigley Field in Chicago for the Cubs' 2017 home opener series against the Dodgers, and an autographed canvas of Kyle Schwarber.

Monday morning saw a total of twenty-five groups arrive at Interlachen for a memorable day of golf. After a few hours to warm up, enjoy a lunch buffet and purchase items from the Under Armour Golf Shop, courtesy of Legacy Team Sales, it was time to tee off. Golfers enjoyed perfect weather throughout the day, and enjoyed complimentary beverages thanks to Yuengling and Tito's Handmade Vodka. Once again, the most entertaining hole was #10, where professional long-driver Bobby Bradley spent his day driving balls for the groups. He even had a new approach to the "tee shot".

The event concluded with a post golf dinner reception, awards for the winning team, and the end of the silent auction. More than 100 local businesses and individuals donated items this year; this event would not exist without the generosity of our supporters, and we would like to thank everyone who helped!

We would like to thank UBS Private Wealth and Diamond Resorts International for their role as presenting sponsors of this year's event.

A special thank you goes out to all of our tournament  celebrities who attended:

Austin Meadows, Eddie Taubensee, Sean Brady, Davey Johnson, Tomas Nido, Christian Arroyo, Walker Lockett, Ryan Hanigan, Casey Kotchman, Daryl Boston, Jim Hickey, Dan Wheeler, AJ Cole, Andy Sonnanstine, Dave Carpenter, Tim Raines Jr., Rickie Weeks, Stan Boroski, Daniel Sweet, Tyler Danish, Jemile Weeks, Austin Glorius, Nick Franklin, Darnell Coles and Jose Bautista.
