Snappers Take Series with 9-6 Win over Squeeze
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - The Orlando Snappers took down the Winter Garden Squeeze on Saturday evening by a score of 9-6. The rubber match of the weekend series fell the way of Alan Kunkel's squad as the Snappers took the latter two games to win the series two games to one.
"The Clutch Factor" keyed Orlando to victory as the Snappers offense continued to capitalize on big moments and their pitching limited the Squeeze with runners on.
The Snappers hit .300 with any runners in scoring position, just enough to produce 9 runs. The big blow came in the top of the first, when Santiago Busot lifted a high fastball over the left-center field fence for a three-run homerun. The Snappers grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first and never relinquished their advantage. Center fielder Colby Brewington and third baseman Roy Rodriguez each scored three runs to help the cause.
Orlando once again used a four-pitcher formula, as Geoffrey D'Amato, Brooks House, Logan Chalk (Win), and Angel Mendoza all spun at least two innings. The most important statistic of the night was the fact that the Squeeze hit just 3 for 16 with runners in scoring position. The Snappers seemed to lock in whenever the pressure mounted.
Orlando improved to 5-2 on the season while the Squeeze fell to 2-5. Orlando finally returns home to The First Academy of Monday when they host the Deland Suns for the first time this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM.
