Late RBI Lifts Diamond Dawgs Past DeLand, 3-2
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Winter Park Diamond Dawgs continued their winning ways Thursday night, edging the DeLand Suns 3-2 at Alfond Stadium in a tightly contested Florida Collegiate Summer League matchup.
Winter Park wasted little time getting on the board in the first inning. Ethan Koller reached base and later scored on Jake Biaggi's RBI single up the middle, giving the Dawgs an early 1-0 advantage. DeLand answered in the third on a fielder's choice RBI by Noah Prudencio before Winter Park reclaimed the lead in the fourth when Osmin Melendez stole home to make it 2-1.
The Suns tied the game again in the fifth after Richard Collazo launched a solo home run to left field. The deadlock remained until the bottom of the eighth, when Jacob Pearl scored on Anthony Vizzini's clutch RBI single up the middle, putting the Dawgs ahead for good, 3-2.
On the mound, Wyatt Flack battled through five innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out the Suns when it mattered most. Benjamin Filler earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits. Kaiden Perez closed the door in the ninth with a perfect inning to record his first save of the season.
The Dawgs will be back in action Friday against the DeLand Suns at 6 p.m. at Alfond Stadium.
