Suns' Skid Continues in Home Loss to Dawgs
DELAND, Fla. - The Winter Park Diamond Dawgs completed a series sweep Saturday night, defeating the DeLand Suns by a 6-2 score at Melching Field.
Winter Park wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring a run in the first inning.
The Dawgs scored four two-out runs in the second, extending their lead to 5-0.
Winter Park added its final run in the third, making the score 6-0.
For the second consecutive game, the Diamond Dawgs were held scoreless after the third inning.
DeLand's first run came in the eighth. Blue Hunter (Glendale CC) reached on an error, and a pair of singles loaded the bases. With one out, Devon Crown (Mississippi Christian) hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Hunter.
In the ninth, DeLand added another run. Boomer Rogozinski (Stetson) walked with one out and stole second base to move into scoring position. With two outs, Josh Vinciguerra (Undecided) singled to left field, scoring Rogozinski.
One bright spot for DeLand was reliever Jason Dennis (Embry-Riddle). After an extremely rough week, Dennis bounced back by throwing four scoreless innings and striking out two.
With the win, Winter Park improved to 12-9-1, while DeLand fell to 8-12.
The Suns and Diamond Dawgs are next scheduled to meet on July 3 in DeLand.
The Suns return to action June 30 on the road against the Orlando Snappers. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Orel Hershiser Field.
