ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Snappers (10-11-1) fell to the DeLand Suns (9-12) on Tuesday night by a final score of 12-6. The game was Orlando's longest of the season, as the nine-inning battle lasted more than four hours and featured 18 runs, 21 hits and 20 walks.
The game became a bullpen game rather quickly for the Snappers. They utilized six different pitchers, their most in a game this season. That group was highlighted by the debut of Michael Surane, a lanky right-hander from Thomas University. He turned in the longest outing by any Orlando pitcher on Tuesday, completing three innings of work.
Eventually, the Suns wore down the Snappers, scoring 12 runs after drawing 11 walks. Every DeLand player who appeared in the game reached base at least once, with all but one reaching at least twice and scoring. DeLand also relied on a bullpen game, using five different pitchers to secure the victory.
The Orlando offense was once again stifled by the strikeout, fanning 15 times.
The three bright spots were Bo Jonas, Ty Kennedy and Colby Brewington. Jonas and Brewington each reached base four times, while Kennedy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Ultimately, it wasn't enough, and DeLand doubled up Orlando in the marathon. The Snappers will have Wednesday off before hosting the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs on Thursday at 7 p.m. at The First Academy.
