Sanford wasted little time taking control, plating three runs in the opening inning behind an RBI double from John Dobkowski, a sacrifice fly by Jake Schincariol and an RBI groundout by Michael Dobkowski. The River Rats added five more runs in the second, highlighted by Adonys Velez's two-run double and Ethan Beal's RBI single to build an 8-0 advantage.
Winter Park starter Knute Rockey took the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits over 1 2/3 innings. The Diamond Dawgs' bullpen settled the game down, as Nick Burgos, Skyler Jersey and Carson Balls combined to allow just two hits over the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
