Snappers Stay Stagnant, Sanford Wins 5-0
SANFORD, Fla. - The Orlando Snappers' offense remained dormant throughout Thursday's seven-inning game as Orlando fell to the Sanford River Rats, 5-0.
The loss dropped the Snappers to 11-13-1, slipping them into fourth place in the Florida Collegiate Summer League standings. Sanford improved to 11-16 with the victory, remaining in sixth place while building momentum for the final stretch of the regular season.
Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, the matchup was reduced to a single seven-inning game, and the River Rats took advantage. Brian Kendall was dominant over five scoreless innings, striking out eight after appearing in the Florida League All-Star Game the previous day.
Ryland Happel started brilliantly for Orlando, retiring the first 11 Sanford batters before running into trouble. The River Rats scored two runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run home run from Florida League All-Star Game MVP Adonys Velez.
Orlando's offense struggled throughout the night, managing just three hits and four baserunners.
The Snappers will look to bounce back Friday when they host the River Rats in a doubleheader at The First Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
