Suns Season Ends With Wild Card Loss

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The DeLand Suns' 2026 postseason came to an early end Monday night as the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs rolled to a 13-0 victory in the Florida Collegiate Summer League play-in game.

Despite the lopsided score, DeLand created scoring opportunities throughout the contest, putting runners in scoring position multiple times. The Suns, however, were unable to capitalize as Winter Park's pitching and defense combined to record the shutout.

The Diamond Dawgs broke the game open with a four-run second inning before adding four more in the third and five in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Although the season ended in disappointment, the Suns put together one of the most memorable campaigns in franchise history. DeLand was among the FCSL's most entertaining clubs all summer, mixing dominant run-rule victories with dramatic extra-inning wins while earning a postseason berth.

The Suns' identity centered on speed, discipline and unselfish offense. Rather than relying on the long ball, DeLand consistently manufactured runs, finishing second in the FCSL in sacrifice flies while using aggressive baserunning and patient at-bats to generate scoring opportunities.

Several players turned in standout seasons. Colby White (Embry-Riddle) established himself as one of the league's premier starting pitchers, leading the FCSL with four wins while posting a 1.47 ERA and striking out 33 batters. Boomer Rogozinski (Stetson) enjoyed one of the league's most complete campaigns, batting .299 with 15 RBIs and 24 stolen bases. Behind the plate, Rogozinski also threw out eight baserunners and guided the Suns' pitching staff throughout the season.

While the playoff loss marked the end of DeLand's 2026 campaign, the Suns' exciting style of play and balanced roster made the club one of the league's toughest opponents from Opening Day through the postseason.
