Meet the 2024 Diamond Dawgs Staff
Head Coach: Jim Newlin
Jim Newlin is the head coach for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs this summer for the second year. In his first season as the Dawgs’ skipper, Newlin won 16 games and took his team to the Florida League semifinals.
Newlin is no stranger to success in the FCSL. This is his ninth year as a coach in the league with his first seven coming as an assistant under head coach Chuck Schall. In 2016, Newlin helped the Altamonte Springs Boom to a Florida League title and did the same with the Diamond Dawgs in 2019.
Before coming to the Florida League as a coach, Newlin played for Wichita State as a relief pitcher and helped the team to a 1989 National Championship. He played for eight years in the minor leagues after being drafted in the 12th round by the Seattle Mariners. After his playing days, Newlin coached locally for Olympia High School and Lake Brantley High School.
He is now on the coaching staff at Rollins College in Winter Park. Newlin is an assistant for the varsity team and the head coach for the junior varsity team.
